Lot 15 , A mid 18th century walnut chest, W.3ft 2in.
A mid 18th century walnut chest, with three short and three long drawers, on bracket feet, W.3ft 2in.
Estimate £250-300
This is an old chest with some later embellishments probably started life as the top of a chest on stand, the top is quarter veneered with an attractive burr walnut, there is however a prominent split running from left to right and a further band of matching band running across the last 2 inches of the back, front of the chest is a little faded with typical slight outward bulging of the drawer fronts, there were clearly drop handles fitted at one point, the holes for which have now been plugged and lie to the outside of the current brass drop handles, equally an escutcheon hole to the top centre drawer has now been plugged, sides are faded but otherwise good, base moulding with a few small chips, feet also later additions.
D.1ft 9in.
H.3ft 1in.
