An Indian sandstone Ganesha stele fragment, Rajasthan 11th/12th century,
the multi-armed elephant-headed god dancing with his arms radiating, holding a bowl of sweets in one hand from which he is sampling with his curled trunk,

Provenance - ex Roland-Geist collection, bought from the dealer Gill Lipton c.1975, who in turn had acquired the work from Spinks, London.

Condition:
As can be seen from the photographs this is a fragment of a larger stele. There are losses to the arms, both ears and the legs of Ganesha. Occasional minor scuffs to the stone at the top, professionally mounted on a metal stand. Provenance from the family but no accompanying paperwork.
