A late 17th century mother of pearl inlaid oak chest, of four geometric panelled drawers, with foliate decoration, W.3ft 2.5in. D.1ft 9in. H.3ft 1in.

Overall of a fairly rich dark brown oak colour, the top is made up of three planks which show lifting and division at the joints and also a lighter colour where the raised joints have been rubbed over the years, in addition some old cracking and splitting, front boards of the drawers are pine, with the geometric fronts in oak, sides back and bottom of drawers are all oak, turned wood handles fit the original holes, some blooming of the polish or varnish to the drawer fronts, and a fair amount of wear and rubbing around the mouldings, some small pieces of mother of pearl missing including from two of the knob handles, two rectangular sections of oak have been applied to the divisions above each of the lower two drawers, sides are panelled, chest comes apart in two sections, bun feet certainly later replacements but look appropriate, the whole piece has suffered fair wear and tear over the years and now it has an attractive worn look.
