The Black Forest group is carved from walnut including the plinth, the top figure of the bullock is missing his right ear and horn and part of his left horn, there also appears to be some losses to the leaf carving on the rock, at the end of the rock he is standing upon where is a small split to the rock at he back, the young bullock standing on the far left of the group has a broken and reglued tail, a loss to the horn and the tip of his right area, the figure of the cow middle right has a split to the wood slightly across her back and opened up on her side, she has a loss to both horns and her right ear, the naturalistic base of the group has a large open split on the right handside, the cow lying down on the base has losses to both horns and her right ear, there are also a few other small leaves around the lower figure of the cow, there are a few occasional worm holes to some of the carved figures and there is some treated worm damage to the plinth particularly at the back with some losses to the timber, otherwise in reasonable condition.
