Sharpe After Maclise The death of Nelson, Art Union 1876

Sharpe After Maclise
engraving,
The death of Nelson, Art Union 1876,
16.5 x 48.5in.
Estimate £80-120

Looks rather flat so thought to be laid down, this print is on a very fine thin paper which is laid onto a contemporary backing paper, the thin paper is just starting to lift a little in the margin at 3 o'clock, otherwise paper is slightly off colour with a number of scattered damp spots and fox marks showing around the margin and some more notable discolouration of the paper towards the left hand side, the extreme left just below 9 o'clock looks to have some white retouching of the margin, no sign of any tears or holes, full title visible in the bottom margin, in a fairly modern gilt frame and under glass.
See also Lot 592 for the related Wellington print.
