Lot 161 , Edgar Brandt, A silvered iron ashtray or dish, 5.5in.

Edgar Brandt, A silvered iron ashtray or dish, 5.5in.

Edgar Brandt, A silvered iron ashtray or dish, modelled as a pelican, on a rectangular base, marked E. Brandt, 5.5in.
Estimate £400-600

Overall this piece has a matted chrome to the finish, the surface is fairly pitted commensurate with casting in iron, and the finish does look to be original, some browning of the finish in the areas nearest the bowl so essentially the lower beak and the sides running near the eyes, this is perhaps due to heat or staining from cigarettes or cigars, although the bowl itself does not appear to be stained, bowl itself has some oxidisation and pitting internally and also looks like it may well have once held a further liner, the rectangular plinth has a shinier finish with the E. Brandt stamp in one corner, overall honest condition.
