A fine gold-mounted bloodstone seal, mid 19th century, the bloodstone matrix engraved with the coat of arms of George Vivian (1798-1873), the gold mount modelled as a bird's claw topped with a floral motif, to a polished bloodstone handle, length 8.5cm, matrix 23 x 21mm, fitted case and note reading 'Seal of George Vivian. Vivian quartering Edwards impaling Grey'.

George Vivian (1798-1873) was an English traveller and topographical artist, known for his Spanish landscapes and views from Italian gardens. In 1842 he married Elizabeth Anne Grey, and the two resided at Claverton Manor near Bath, now the American Museum.
