Both pictures relined many years ago, canvases remain tight, both painted the oval, both with a rather shiny varnish and fairly dark, a fine stable craquelure showing throughout him, she in similar condition perhaps with a little more pronounced craquelure across the flesh tones, later gilt scroll frames, he with label A.E. Ratisus 50 D.B.J. 1716
