Humphrey Marsh of Highworth. An early 18th century chinoiserie lacquered thirty hour longcase clock, numbered 201, with later anchor escapement, H.7ft 7in.
Estimate £800-1,200

The 10in. dial and movement appear to have started life with each other, they have been cleaned and serviced in the last 20 years, however the dial doesn't seem to fit the case correctly and sits back to far and is possibly a little bit too small for the aperture. The interior of the case and backboard have been painted with an iron red paint which obscures any alterations to the seatboard and cheeks. The 30 hour movement has a rope cord with brass pulley, comes together with a brass faced lead pendulum bob with steel shaft and spring leaf. The case itself-the lower part of the hood trunk door and base appear to have original decoration with some re-touching and re-varnishing in places. The upper cornice and bell-shaped top look a little brighter and may be a later replacement. The box-base has been cut down in height with later plinth decorated to match. There are butterfly style hinges to the trunk door and an old lock which has clouted nails. The lenticle has a later piece of glass in it and the exterior moulding around it is raised, not totally convinced whether this is original or not.
height to top finial 232cm
OUR OPINION is that the anchor escapement is probably original with one palette re-faced but it is likely that work has been done to the movement.
