An unusual Chinese cut pith paper painting, early 20th century, of a cricket amid flowering branches, with cut work calligraphic inscription on a brocade silk ground, 28.5cm x 34cm incl. border

Provenance: William Moule and his family, who were Christian missionaries in Ningpo (Ningbo) and Shanghai in the late 19th and early 20th century; thence by descent.

Basically in good condition with some very light spotting to the silk brocade ground, the ebonised frame has some slight dents to it otherwise good.
