This work along with Lot 1261 and 1262 comes for sale from a descendant of the artist for whom we have sold other works in the past.

both works are typically studio remnants and appear never to have been mounted or framed, the image with horses suffers from a little water damage in the top right corner and is fairly unfinished, this is confirmed with the artists? inscription on the back with IOM half finished two horses, also Alfriston half finished 24/40. The other view of the pond possibly near Alfriston is in similar condition, both retain fair strength of colour, both have some small scattered dirt marks but little by way of foxing.
