A Hannah Hack, York School, 1801 sampler, sewn within an embroidered black oval border, headed with York School above a row of numerals and two rows of lower case and capital letters, with a pastoral verse below then signed and dated, the entire sampler embroidered simply with fine black thread, 31cm wide x 28cm high. Condition - the backing cloth is stained and an area to the left is water stained, there are two moth holes, the frame needs attention.

Needlework dirty and stained; seven small holes seen, affecting the quadrant backgrounds, only one seen affecting the oval stitched design, between the numerals and the alphabet; fabric looks fragile; the reverse wood/stiff-card damp-damaged; frame also damp-damaged, particularly affecting left vertical.
