Evelyn Waugh (1903-1966), English Writer and Novelist. A.L.S., Evelyn Waugh, one page, 8vo, Combe Florey, near Taunton, 16th July 1963, to [John] Stathatos. Waugh commences 'Your mother (who doesn't give me your Christian name so please forgive the American “Mr.” on the envelope) tells me you are in London and would like sometimes to get away from it', continuing to invite his correspondent to Combe Florey House for the August bank holiday weekend, adding 'One of my daughters will be here but I am afraid you will find us a dull household. You will be most welcome if you are content with such surroundings.' The novelist further explains 'The journey from Paddington to Taunton is easy, but likely to be crowded at this season. The best train leaves at 4.30. We would meet you. There will probably also be special trains for bank holiday week-end. I could arrange for my daughter to meet you in London. She is not a very competent traveler.' EX John Stathatos (1947- ) Greek Photographer & Writer, son of Maro Stathatos (née Vatimbella) (1919-1989) Egyptian-born Greek Artist. Condition - good
