Two early 19th century finely worked samplers: One 'A Sublime Thought', dated 1822 by Ann Dudley, simply worked with verse and a wide vineous border and two oak trees, the other a register of the children of Samuel and Ann Dudley, titled 'Glory be to God on high', dated 1817, worked in coloured silk threads, with the central register and verse below, amongst motifs of candelabra, plants and trees, all edged with a narrow floral border, Sublime Thought 41.5cm high x 31cm wide. Glory be to God on high, 31.5cm wide x 43cm high. Condition - some staining to both samplers and a few small moth holes
