S &S - v.sl. frontis. offset, final leaf sl. gutter damage at top partly affecting 7 of last 8 text lines with a clean tear through 6 words (no loss and clear of printer's imprint on verso) and damage beneath on blank paper; v.sl. tear foot of printed title. (3), 440pp. (Persuasion with separate title in continuous pagination; the printed title in prelims. being for Northanger Abbey only); series no. xxv111; p & P. - title with frontis offset and light browning, light browning printed title, p.2 sm. text mark. (3), 340pp. series no. xxx. nb. all vols. with pencilled note re binding (mostly lh. margin final text page) and sm. ink note - rebound 1971 (foot back pastedown). Binding - an acceptable amateur rebind - some gilt letters are smudged and the maroon leather is flaky in places - but together with the restrained design and light grey of the e/ps. conveys a reasonable imitation of an 'antique' set. nb. there are no protective tissues for engraved leaves; there are blanks fore and aft (some possibly replacements).
