A late 18th / early 19th century Chinese finely woven Kesi military rank badge, woven with multi-coloured blue, orange and gold coloured threads, with central motif of a large lion on a mountain above water filled with symbolic motifs, his head turned to an orange sun in the sky, intricately woven with clouds and motifs

There is a 3cm hole near the bottom to the centre of the rank badge. There are seven other holes, which are possibly moth holes to the Kesi fabric and the edging of the rank badge is frayed badly at the top and bottom. There is a dark mark possibly candle wax by the side of the lion on the mountain to the left of the lion.
