19th century English School, watercolour, 'Detached squadron getting underweigh from St Thomas', West Indies 1873', 30.5 x 50cm
Condition: Overall a little faded with the dark buff coloured ground paper showing through, a rather gloomy appearance particularly to the sky, top left corner is very clean and white possibly a little scrubbed, top right area is the gloomiest part of the sky, fine white paint specks flecking over most of the work which can also be seen top and bottom centre of the frame, five white splash marks across the bottom sea near the lower right corner, one quite prominent and slightly scratched into the paper at that point, one small worm hole near the left corner, scratched damage near the base margin, paper looks to be laid down onto card, no sign of any signature, housed in what was once a high quality ebonised frame with the detailed title plaque, no inscriptions verso, remnant of a Kensington Framers label verso.
