Oil on canvas relined many years ago, canvas remains tight, paint looks a little dirty but otherwise in good order, housed in a 19th century gilt gesso and ebonised frame which now suffers numerous dents and scratches, pencil inscription to the back of the frame giving details of the artist and sitter, remnants of an auctioneers or exhibition label on the back of the stretcher.
