This looks like an original period grate but with later repair, the brass work all looks original with some fine pitting, dents and knocks commensurate with age, the engraving also looks period as does the pierced fret work, front section of the grate also looks original but the sides and back look to be later as does the pierced cast iron base, condition overall is very good.
