Oil on canvas, cleaned, relined and restored approx. 10 years ago or so. Canvas remains tight, a fine but stable craquelure throughout with slight stretcher marks showing. Later frame.
Stretcher inscribed indistinctly 'In calf.....15 years old.......the property of.....' at the top and 'Painted by Richard Whitford of .......1869' below.
Further careful studying of thiese inscriptions might reveal more.
