A Victorian Gillow walnut and marquetry work table, c.1865-70, the design attributed to Charles Bevan, the top enclosing a velvet lined interior, with panelled frieze, on turned supports with brass castors, united by a spindle galleried shelf, stamped 'Gillow' twice beneath the frieze, W.2ft 4in.

The stamp 'Gillow' was used by the firm from 1850-70 and the Copes patent brass castors are of a type Charles Bevan used on his 'Reclining Chair', an example of which is in this sale.


The top has definately been repolished in the last 30 - 40 years, there is general scuffing and scratching to the removable inset top and a very slight gap has formed between some of the parqeutry veneers on the top, the green velvet lining appears to be original, is a little scuffed and worn in places but generally ok, in general the whole piece has been repolished but retaining most of the original colour underneath and there is occasional minor scuffs and scratches to corners and raised areas but generally in reasonable condition.
