Lot 626 , An Edwardian 9ct gold and black opal brooch, 51mm.
An Edwardian 9ct gold and black opal brooch, of oval form, the opal length approximately 41mm, 51mm.
Estimate £200-300
The stone appears not a doublet although not 100% sure as the setting is quite deep. There appears to be a fair amount of surface damage to the opal as the surface is not smooth. Using a loope it seems there are graze chips, nicks and small cracks which appear to have been polished to achieve a smoother finish. No visible damage to the underside of the stone.
