A William IV Mauchlineware penwork and sycamore tea caddy, c.1833, stamped 'Smith, Mauchline Manufacturers to His Majesty', decorated in penwork with a view of 'George Heriot's Hospital' inscribed 'Part of the Belfry Taken down during repairs', wood hinges to cover and both canister lids, on turned feet, width 7.5in., together with a similar sycamore snuff box, the lid with penwork view ' Heriot's Hospital' (hinge damaged), 3.5in.

The oak timber used for this box is likely to have been removed from George Heriot's Hospital (now School) Belfry around 1833 when the facades were re-faced.
