A Japanese silver and gold wire cloisonne enamel box and cover, Meiji period, probably from the workshop of Hayashi Tanigoro, the cover and one corner to the sides decorated with blossoming prunus branches, a bird perched and looking toward a flying bee, both picked out in gold wire, on a deep blue ground, silver inlaid circular two character seal mark to base, 11cm

The exterior of the box has occasional minor scratches to the enamel but essentially good condition with no chips, cracks or restoration, there is wear to the enamel on the base consistent with age and some wear to the gilding on the mounted rims and hinge, the interior of the box has oxidisation to the gilt interior with patches of copper showing through, there is a slot to the edge of the cover and to the base where they may well have been a hinged bracket to support the cover when opened which is now lacking, otherwise in good condition.
