Lot 1317 , 19th century Italian School Roman topography, largest 20.5 x 9in.
19th century Italian School
3 fan leaf designs in gouache,
Roman topography,
largest 20.5 x 9in.
Estimate £200-300
All three with some degrees of damage.
The first semi-circular work looks to be painted onto chicken skin, which is coming away from a paper backing, most notably in the central panel of The Pantheon but also elsewhere, now looking rather frail, colours a little faded particularly the ink title, frame very battered and split at the top.
The other two works equally in poor condition, example with arched building in the centre has had a fair amount of the missing detail retouched and now showing as ink on a brown backing, also appears to be further replacement retouching to all other brown areas of the work. Triple coloured views in better condition although of less quality, again both frames with splitting to the edges, all three look to be original works rather than overprinted backing.
Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports. The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging. Interested bidders are strongly encouraged to request a condition report on any lots upon which they intend to bid, prior to placing a bid. All transactions are governed by Gorringes Conditions of Sale.
