Lot 435 , A mid 19th century French ormolu mounted white marble mantel clock, height 17.5in.
A mid 19th century French ormolu mounted white marble mantel clock, modelled with a bronze of a seated classical woman, signed Schoenewerk, over a plinth base with figural frieze, height 17.5in.
Estimate £800-1,200
Ormolu figure of the lady has some rubbing to the raised points and equally some dirt and oxidisation in the recesses, one string of the lyre is broken, perhaps this is intentional implying that she can no longer play it, the figure is not fixed down to the base, base material looks to be alabaster rather than white marble, shows some typical patches of discolouration, one small crack in the front right corner of the top panel, small nibbles and chips from the raised edges throughout, dial remains in good order although hands look like they have been overpainted, movement complete and going but not tested for timekeeping. Comes with an associated key. Overall fair to good condition. Japy Freres movement stamped 96CR.
