Raymond Kanelba was a 20th-century Polish painter born in Warsaw and educated there as well as in Vienna and Paris. He was strongly influenced by the École de Paris, though his style was more realistic and anti-impressionist in character.
In 1926, his works were exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne in Paris. In 1952, he held a large exhibition of his paintings in New York City.
Kanelba was especially admired for his portraits of women and children, as well as his paintings of flowers, interiors, and street scenes. In 1955, he travelled to England, where he undertook the most important commission of his career. At the request of the Grenadier Regiment, he painted a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
Although Kanelba lived most of his life in France, he died in London in July 1960.
