An early 20th century red morocco despatch box, formerly the property of Richard Assheton Cross, b.1882, embossed in gold with the initials of Viscount Richard Cross “R.A.C.” Manufactured by Wickwar and Co, London. Includes an unbound copy of “A Family History. [On the family of Cross. With a genealogical table.]” by Richard Assheton Cross, published by Eyre and Spottiswoode, 1900.

Richard Assheton Cross, 1st Viscount Cross, 1823-1914, was a Conservative politician and Home Secretary in the governments of Benjamin Disraeli and Lord Salisbury. He was latterly appointed Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster by Queen Victoria. width 42cm, depth 30cm, height 9.5cm
