A rare enamelled gilt metal Charles I memorial portrait locket, 17th century,
of oval form, with black enamelling to the exterior, the interior with portrait of the Monarch and white enamelling to the lid decorated with an eye and dated Jan 30 1649 inscribed 'quis temperer lachrymis',
overall 2.5 x 1.5cm

Condition:
Enamelling to the outer case is worn particularly around the sides of the lid, suspension loop is later, white enamelling to the inside of the lid has losses around the edges, enamelling of the Monarch is good, size of the miniature 1.25 x 1cm. Chip/hole/damage to the white enamel (top of interior in image). Gross weight 5.3 grams.
