A Kashan inscribed copper lustre pottery bowl, Persia, 13th century,
the interior with central lattice medallion within a band of palmettes and an inscription, the exterior with a repeating design of circles and dots, unglazed foot.
Provenance- the Sir Eldred Hitchcock K.C.M.G. (1887-1959) collection, thence by direct family descent. His collection was published in 1956 in Islamic Pottery: From the ninth to the fourteenth centuries A.D. in the collection of Sir Eldred Hitchcock.

Condition:
There is fine crazing and slight staining to the glaze all over. There are some occasional blank patches of decoration to the interior and areas where the glaze has turned to a matte brown rather than copper lustre. There are a few occasional glaze chips around the edge One slightly larger with some filler to the area and an over glazed firing crack to one side, typical unglazed foot otherwise in good condition for an object of this age.
