Daniel Hernandez Morillo (1856-1932), oil on canvas, House at Plage de Trestrignel, Brittany, signed, 46 x 75cm
Provenance - by family descent from Rene´ Du Pre´ de Saint Maur (1846-1919) who bought the house in the painting in 1896. The house was subsequently destroyed during WWII. It is likely that the artist must have known Du Pre Saint Maur and painted the view for him.
Literature - Daniel Hernández Morillo was a Peruvian painter in the Academic style who spent most of his working life in Paris. In 1883, he was elected President of the "Sociedad de Pintores Españoles", composed of the Spanish-speaking artists who lived there. He was also a member of the "Société des Artistes Français" and exhibited regularly at the Salon. He also served as the first Director of the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes.
