A Chinese apricot embroidered silk ‘dragon’ formal court robe, jifu, late Qing Dynasty,
worked in satin stitch and couched gold threads with nine five-clawed contorted dragons writhing amidst lingzhi-form clouds, all above the terrestrial diagram, turbulent waves and the lishui stripe at the hem,

Condition:
The robe has some minor alterations, with the sleeves reduced in length and the applied dark blue Dragon border has been adjusted to one side. There are numerous loose gilt couch work threads all over and occasional unpicked silk threads. The apricot ground is a little discoloured in areas and the pale blue satin lining has some slight staining around the neck and front.
