Oil on canvas laid on to hardboard within the past 20 years ago or so, paint looks rather dry with slight bitumous bubbling in the darker areas and a fine craquelure throughout, signs of retouching probably to the black collar and certainly to the folds of the dress and down the side of the arm, no sign of any signature, housed in an 18th century plain wooden frame, label verso for Venables Fine Arts of Washington DC.
