An old reline to the canvas which was poorly done with original canvas still showing undualation. Old but stable craqulure throughout. A rather shiny varnish. A 4-5 inch tear/loss of paint through her left sleeve. Much of the robes and the left margin look retouched. Inscribed Fombeau 1698 on the pillar.
Extensive inscription verso regarding the sitter. 19th century vineous gilt frame now a little tatty.
