Oil on canvas relined many years ago, canvas now very slightly saggy with a little undulation, paint looks like it might have been somewhat overcleaned in the past particularly the brown background where the weave of the canvas is very prominent, blue of the robes, stock and hair look to have had some overpainting over the years but the flesh tones and white of the folds in the robes all have craquelure showing signs of age and originality, housed in a period carved wood and gesso frame which has been heavily overpainted with gold paint, paper label to the back of the stretcher giving details of sitter and artist, no.64 inscribed on the back of the canvas, armorial crest label of the Dane Family applied to the bottom of the stretcher along with a print out giving details of the Dane Family, no sign of any worming to the frame or stretcher.
