Lot 192 , A Japanese silver articulated model of a cicada, by Muneyoshi, Meiji period, length 5.2cm

A Japanese silver articulated model of a cicada, by Muneyoshi, Meiji period, length 5.2cm

A Japanese silver articulated model of a cicada, by Muneyoshi, Meiji period, the insect with fully articulated legs and wings, the details finely embossed and chased, signed under the inner right wing Muneyoshi, length 5.2cm
Estimate £300-500

Literature: See Laura Bordignon, The Golden Age of Japanese Okimono, Suffolk 2010, page 243 for a similar model of a cicada and Bonham's New York, Fine Japanese Works of Art Sale, 19th March 2014, Lot 3165 for a similar example.

There is some tarnish to the silver all over, the articulated legs some are more bent outward than others but there is no apparent damage of losses and then the larger outer wings move slightly but don't swivel but the smaller inner wings do swivel around and one of the inner wings there is the two character signature of Muneyoshi, otherwise generally in good condition with no restoration or damage, good definition to the casting.
