Lot 585 , Attributed to Charles Lock Eastlake. A Victorian Aesthetic movement walnut writing desk, W.2ft D.1ft 6in. H.4ft 9in.
Attributed to Charles Lock Eastlake. A Victorian Aesthetic movement walnut writing desk, with tile inset back and fall front revealing a tooled leather skiver and fitted interior, ex Fine Art Society, W.2ft D.1ft 6in. H.4ft 9in.
Estimate £1,000-1,500
This piece of furniture was stored in a warehouse where there was a fire and although not directly effected by the flames there does appear to have water damage, the back top and front all show signs of water splashing which has faded a little and therefore requires a repolish, top itself is faded to a paler tone than the rest of the piece which retains a rich mahogany colour, also the veneers to the top are lifting up, again this is thought to be due to water damage, the metal work equally shows oxidisation spots from water splashing, the interior looks original with an old skiver showing some old splitting and old ink spots scattered inside around the wells, no key present, but overall with a repolish should restore to good effect.
