Namikawa Sosuke (1847-1919). A musen and cloisonne enamel 'rooster or cockerel' vase, Meiji period, of pear shape, the beak, eye and feet of the cockerel in silver wire, shakudo rims, silver wire seal mark to base 'Sakigake', height 25.5cm, two small bruises to enamel

There is a small bruise and associated hairline crack to the right of the cockerel measuring 19mm, and on the opposing side to the cockerel, at the bottom of the neck is a larger bruise with a shallow splinter loss to the enamel and some associated hairline cracks measuring a total of 18mm x 10mm, and there is some "ghosting" to the grey ground around the neck which has happened in manufacture, there is some slight brown speckling to the enamel around the base of the vase and the shakudo foot has some verdigris and some slight wear with copper showing through consistent with age, on the inside of the neck just below the shakudo rim there are some splinter losses to the brown enamel, please see photographs. There are other occasional minor scratches or scuffs to the inner mon.
