Provenance: the vendor's grandfather, a wealthy Czech collector of European paintings and works of art, settled in England c.1928 and this work has been in the family's possession prior to this date.
Oil on old soft wooden panel which is curving backwards at the top and bottom, paint work is largely intact, some small losses to the top right corner and the paint in the blue of the sky to the right of the sitter. Further fine mostly horizontal lines of craquelure running throughout the work, looks dirty and certainly in need of a clean. Back of the panel showing signs of old worm damage, comes in an old giltwood frame which equally shows worming to the back and has wear and loss of gilding to the front.
