oils on canvas relined probably 40or 50 years, gentleman slight undulation to canvas, slightly dry craquelure throughout the paint which is starting to the lift particularly in the forehead and above it, a dent and raised paint retouching at 6 o'clock, much of the red robes look to be retouched, further signs of retouching in the dark margins. She in similar state with fairly heavy retouching at 6 o'clock, further retouching of her robes, stretcher marks showing and pronounced craquelure particularly in the skin tones which is just starting to lift. Both in old frames which have various old cracks and damages and have later gilding.
