The 1912 Grand National winner Jerry M was ridden by Ernie Piggott, grandfather of 11-times British flat racing Champion Jockey, Lester Piggott. The 4/1 joint-favourite, trained by trained by Robert Gore and owned by Sir Charles Assheton-Smith, produced a titanic display, in what was to be his last race before he was retired due to back and breathing problems.
