Note: David Bailey’s Box of Pin-Ups, released in 1965, is a loose collection of 36 portraits showcasing the fashionable elite of the time. As described on the cover, the images reflect Bailey’s personal world of fashion, pop music, and the Ad Lib nightclub. Each portrait is paired with notes by Francis Wyndham, a writer, literary editor, and journalist. Together, the collection captures the essence of the burgeoning celebrity culture of the 1960s, with many portraits becoming iconic representations of London’s cultural figures during the Swinging Sixties. Notably, only four of the “pin-ups” are women, including Jean Shrimpton, one of the most famous models of the era who collaborated almost exclusively with Bailey.
