A fine Japanese 'sea creatures' tanto, Meiji period, the saya lacquered to simulate wood grain and gilt decorated with shells and seaweed and mounted with a copper alloy lobster and grey metal crab ashi, the kozuka, fuchi, menuki and kashira with gold, grey and brown patinated sea creatures, the kozuka with three character mark and kakihan, the 30cm blade cast and chased with the figure Shoki, total length 45.5cm

Corrosion to the blade and kozuka blade. Loss to fish shaped mount on the saya where the kozuka slots in. Small losses to binding on handle.
The blade cannot be safely removed, the scabbard has no longitudinal cracks but has two chips, no splits.
