Estimate £700-900
Overall in slightly neglected condition, top is of a good rich colour, skiver is old and with light scuffing and wear, minor dents and nicks around the frieze, turned knob handles have small chips and damages to the tips of the knobs, drawers are fitted with a Bramah lock but no key, one knob handle missing from the side drawers, overall rather dirty and dusty but should restore to good effect. As mentioned minor dents and flaws throughout, some short cracks running in from both sides of the top, possibly a later infilled old split down one side, that side being rather dull in finish and dirty, a similar separation of timbers or splits running down the opposing side which is equally dirty, not on castors, kneehole height is 63cm, locks original, one knob handle broken away, retained but part of the lower section is now missing, three other knob handles has lost parts of their lower section, there is an additional incomplete loose knob handles suggesting that some of the handles are later replacements, this is notable in that some retain a small raised central boss and others do not, this desk was used by an artist for many years, he appears to have kept his paint and other materials in many of the drawers which are consequently dirty and dusty, no sign of any woodworm.
