An 17th/18th century walnut bureau bookcase, with broken arch cornice and two astragal glazed doors enclosing shelves over the fall enclosing fitted interior and well above two short and two graduated long drawers, on pad feet, W.3ft 11in. D.2ft 1in. H.8ft 1in.

The construction of the drawers with clouted nails rather than dovetails may indicate this is Dutch made from the William III period, the whole piece has been cleaned in the last 40 years, it has Victorian replacement locks and period style handles but holes inside the drawer fronts from two previous sets of handles, the fitted interior has dropped slightly in the centre, the bookcase glazing bars have metal and wood reinforcements inside, reasonable condition for age.
Fairly extensive restoration at some point within the past 20 years or so, pediment and finials look to be replacements, moulding around base of the top is added, back boards do match, unusual glazing bars may indicate Dutch origins, interior embellished at some stage, moulding around the base is a later addition/replacement.
Overall a substantial example of larger than usual proportions. One small section of moulding missing from the fall.
