Provenance: Sir Charles Holroyd (1861-1917), English artist and curator, Keeper of The Tate (1897-1908) and Director of the National Gallery (1906-1916)

Oil on canvas cleaned, relined and restored within the past 10 to 20 years or so, canvas remains tight, paint showing some fine but stable craquelure running through the centre of the work and signs of retouching around the margins, housed in an old 19th century gilt gesso frame which has seen some overpainting and restorations, old paper label verso stating Sir Charles Holroyd at the National Gallery 1916? and found it to be a "Claude"...
