Oil on the original canvas which is now showing a very slight sag, paint looks a little dirty with some fine craquelure particularly running through the browns of her cape beneath the book, clearly signed across the bottom, possibly some retouching across the top corners, and certainly would benefit greatly from a clean, housed in what looks to be the original gilt gesso frame which is now heavily cracked with losses to the lower right corner. Cooling & Sons label verso along with an old Christie's label numbered 9616.
