A Japanese concertina book of naturalistic paintings on silk, Meiji period, double sided and painted to one side with eight studies of insects, reptiles and amphibians, the reverse with landscapes including fish, crabs, frogs, flowers, fruit and rockwork, inscribed three character marks and seal mark, inscribed in pencil to each end by 'Miss Hokoku', 25 x 24cm

The silk covered boards are worn and frayed at the corners and discoloured on the edges. The images have some occasional light spotting and staining to them but the colours are still good. The toad has raised warts to its back, one lacking, which have left an impression to the backboard, otherwise in reasonable condition.
