A Chinese chickens blood soapstone group of Shaolao riding a buffalo, 18th century, 13cm high, 12cm long, small losses

A Chinese 'chicken's blood' soapstone group of Shaolao riding a buffalo, 18th century, the figure holding a sceptre in his right hand, engraved decoration to his robes and the saddle, 13cm high, 12cm long, small losses
Estimate £400-600

Provenance: by family repute formerly in the Arthur Flynn collection, purchased from Bluett's before 1980.

There are losses to the ruyi sceptre in the figures right hand and to the buffalo's right horn on its head, there is natural veining to the stone all over, possible that the group has been expertly restored matching the stone to the original as the fore legs and the head of the ox have been joined on with a visible fine line at the join, or alternatively this is how the figure was made, some wear to high points consistent with age.
