Lot 386 , A George III Cuban mahogany supper table, H.71.5cms Diameter 94.5cms
A George III Cuban mahogany supper table, the circular top on a gun barrel column and cabriole legs with unusually shaped pad feet, H.71.5cms Diameter 94.5cms
Estimate £1,000-1,500
The table is of a good even rich brown mahogany colour with a fair depth patina, signs of old dents, wear and scratches to the top which looks to have been French polished at some point, some small dents to the varnish, one old 4cm long crack running in from the edge of the top, possibly some slight overstaining with there is a gnarl in the wood near the edge, the bearers under the table are probably later replacements, the catch has certainly been repositioned over the years and there is a fair chance that it is a later replacement as is the block to the top of the column, column itself a good colour, one fine crack running down from top to bottom, tripod looks good, some minor scuffing to the feet.
